Chapter 207: Firefight
Upon hearing Zhang Xiao Qiang’s plan, Three did not say anything and started groping about with the AR on his back until he reached the intersecting angle of the half walls and hid there.
Three had learned plenty of things and knew that igniting the Molotov in the corner would prevent him from being the target.
The conversation between Zhang Xiao Qiang and Three had been overheard by the Combat Team Members who were hiding by the side. All of them fumed with rage, the two brothers who were sentries and had died were the two members who barbequed the rat meat.
The two of them were originally construction workers and came from the same hometown to seek work together. The two of them were extremely outspoken and straightforward, always willing to share their good stuff. Their straightforward attitude and honesty was something rare in the apocalypse, to be killed by others, how could the rest not be angry? After All, they were still brothers who had gone through life and death together!
The sound of something crawling broke the silence of the night, after that a few blades of grass that were originally still started to sway slightly. Although there were no moonlight and vision was bad, the forest and weed in the distance were still slightly visible and any movements were noticeable. Everyone flicked the safety of their Type-81 ARs and aimed at the location where the sound had come out from.
A red light lit up from Three’s corner. Three suddenly stood up and threw the burning Molotov over and quickly squat back down.
“SHUA SHUA….” Countless arrows shot through the night sky and struck the wall behind him or flew above his head. Three did not move despite the arrows threatening his own position, and instead looked around for any movements and got ready to throw the second molotov.
Zhang Xiao Qiang watched the bright bottle fly through the air and landed on the grass. Maybe the ground was too soft as the bottle did not shatter, instead, the cloth at the opening burned the dry grass all around, revealing countless human shadows.
Zhang Xiao Qiang did not shout like a sergeant in the movies, he simply pointed his gun muzzle at the figures and started firing.
Zhang Xiao Qiang’s fires were the orders. Over 10 Type-81 ARs engaged in fire, the inch-long flames spewing at the tip of the muzzles revealed the faces of the firers. Screams came out from the grass. Inside the flames, the shadows started to fall under the fire while some others immediately dropped to the ground.
“DA DA DA……” The Type-53 HMG opened fire, countless of fiery bullets flew straight into weeds that had grown to the waist level, cutting through the weeds like a scythe through crops. Following the fall of the weeds, a person suddenly jumped up as he was lit on fire, and tried to put out the flames on his body.
The moment he stood up, the HMG cut him in half. He did not die from it instantly as he rolled about with his upper body, unleashing a horrendous scream of anguish.
Three threw the second molotov, not at the location where Zhang Xiao Qiang and the rest were firing at. The molotov flew in an arc and brought its flames behind Zhang Xiao Qiang.
A gunshot fired off inside the darkness behind Zhang Xiao Qiang and lit up with a green flame. The glass bottle was smashed into pieces from the bullet in mid-air.
“BOOOM…..” The flames in the air transformed into a fireball that fell to the ground, igniting everything in its path. Countless human figures appeared behind the hill….
“DA DA DA….” Three raised his AR and sprayed, the bullets spinning like shooting stars into the crowd. The enemies that had skirted around reacted quickly, taking cover the moment Three took fire, but how can a person be faster than a bullet? Two of them were struck in the chests the moment they dropped to the ground.
Three aimed his muzzle at the group sprawled across the floor and fired, but gunshots suddenly fired out from the ground and countless of flames combusted as bullets sprayed across the wall that Three was taking cover at.
Countless bullets shot at the half wall and ricocheted away in all directions. Three felt a blaze on his face as a flesh wound appeared.
Three immediately squatted down to hide from the incoming bullets. “CLANG….” A bullet shot directly at Three’s helmet.
The immense force shocked Three, forcing him to lie on the grass with his rifle. His head rang as he watched the bullets fly across the sky like meteors. He felt as though his brains no longer existed and subconsciously removed his helmet to feel for his own head. It took him a while before the ringing in his head disappeared.
Three wore the helmet again and jumped to the side of the wall and engaged in the firefight, where a few men had already stood up from their crawling positions and were walking towards his direction. Three’s fire forced them to kneel down and return fire back at him.
The enemies had Type-81 ARs as well and their concentrated firepower prevented Three from popping his head out. All of them aimed at Three to suppress him while the men behind them took the chance to crawl towards Zhang Xiao Qiang…..
Zhang Xiao Qiang had attracted all the enemies in front of him initially with the upfront fire and only realized that they were deceived when the enemies behind him had engaged with Three. In the entire course of the battle, the enemies in front of him had never retaliated with their rifles and only shot a few arrows.
Zhang Xiao Qiang’s immense firepower suppressed the enemies in front of him to the point that they were unable to even raise their heads, hearing the concentrated fires behind, Zhang Xiao Qiang knew that he made a mistake. The enemies before him were just a group of bait meant to attract his fires while the real enemies were behind him.
Zhang Xiao Qiang got five of his men to continue the suppressive fires on the enemies in front of them while the rest turned and fired at the enemies behind them. The enemies that had blindly climbed up never expected Zhang Xiao Qiang’s firepower to be so ferocious, firing as though they had unlimited bullets. They no longer dared to continue their assault and sprawled onto the ground and fired back at Zhang Xiao Qiang’s direction.
The difference in the firepower revealed itself, listening to the sound, Zhang Xiao Qiang and the enemies across him were all equipped with Type-81 ARs, but Zhang Xiao Qiang’s side was spraying everywhere. Even Three’s rate of fire was considered lesser, while the enemies were all firing single shots. Although Zhang Xiao Qiang did not know how many enemies there were, they had completely suppressed them.
After emptying the magazine of his rifle, the Type-53 HMG finished its adjustment and the meter long blue flames spewed out from its muzzle, dazzling the night light. The firepower unleashed by the HMG was far stronger than Zhang Xiao Qiang and his men, completely suppressing the entire space. With that, the enemies were no longer able to continue their engagement, much less escape.
It was Zhang Xiao Qiang’s turn to occupy the initiation. The firepower of the HMG prevented the enemies from doing anything, as long as their guns fired and revealed their locations, the HMG bullets would spray in that direction. Much less the enemies, the bullets of the HMG pulverized and cleared all the weed in the area. Seeing that the enemies had already been suppressed, Zhang Xiao Qiang unholstered his Desert Eagle and made a detour. Although Shangguan Qiao Yun had her rifle aimed at the enemies the entire time, her focus was mainly placed on Zhang Xiao Qiang. Seeing that he was moving, she followed tightly behind him.
Zhang Xiao Qiang did not rush into the battlefield rashly, he wanted to outflank the enemies and lock them up and would be able to clear them off easily upon daylight. The molotov cocktail still burned in the space between the two of them, releasing an extremely bright light. Zhang Xiao Qiang held his Desert Eagle and moved towards the side, reached the periphery of the light, then disappeared into the darkness.
