Chapter 231: Gen-Omega Humans
“Swishhh….” Zhang Xiao Qiang unsheathed the Jing Wei Blade from a new sheath made of steel slung to his back. The footprints on the ground that were like footprints covered up by snow were only visible to his sharp eyes
Zhang Xiao Qiang did not believe that the person knew unparalleled qing gong, which left one possibility, the person was the same as Liu Tou, a person that had drunk the rainwater and evolved to an Agility-type human.
Zhang Xiao Qiang had decided to label the people who evolved from drinking the rainwater as Gen-Omega Humans because they were much faster, much stronger, much more capable than ordinary humans. Also, they had a higher probability of surviving in the apocalypse.
Zhang Xiao Qiang knew that an Agility-type Gen-Omega Human was around and held great vigilance towards such people. After fighting to a standstill with Liu Tou the previous time, if not for lunatic Guo Fei wanting to die together with him and Liu Tou was too afraid of dying, Zhang Xiao Qiang might not have killed him. The most probable outcome would have been Liu Tou escaping and hiding in the darkness to do a reversal.
Zhang Xiao Qiang and his combat team members moved carefully, with Director Ma being anxious despite not knowing the situation. He merely thought that Zhang Xiao Qiang and the team were doing routine checks and naively followed them.
Arriving at the retractable metal doors made out of aluminum alloy, Zhang Xiao Qiang discovered that the footprints were more crowded together. The crowded footprints extended from the entrance of the building all the way into the small steel doors behind.
He suddenly raised his head and looked up, instantly noticing the slight swaying of the curtains on the second floor. Zhang Xiao Qiang did not disclose the movements and looked back to his two subordinates who had rolled the sluice gate, allowing light to enter the building, allowing them to take a better look.
At this time, Zhang Xiao Qiang discovered even more evidence of people living in the small building. The sluice gate did not have any locks and the steel doors did not even make any creaking sounds when it was pulled open…..Zhang Xiao Qiang noticed that the door frames were covered in grease that had stained the ground, someone had obviously oiled the steel doors. Taking a whiff of the smell in the building, Zhang Xiao Qiang was positive that it was food oil.
From the outside, the building did not look too big. But after entering, Zhang Xiao Qiang realized that the room within was not small. After thinking about it, it had to be. Buildings that were capable of storing festival supplies for thousands of people, how could a building be small if it were to hold them?
Inside the empty room were densely packed rice sacks worth up to 25kg, branded peanut oil bottles that looked to amount up to 5m tall leaned against the wall. The air had the stench of rotting fruits coming from rotting cardboard boxes filled with fruits.
Zhang Xiao Qiang saw plenty of empty easy-open cans beside the peanut oil that had the sign of what seemed to be fruit juice printed on them. Zhang Xiao Qiang walked around the room, aside from seeing plenty of empty cardboard boxes, there were no longer any of such cans remaining.
Aside from food, Zhang Xiao Qiang also noticed plenty of empty bags and sweet wrappers by the corner that had piled up to the height of a normal human.
Without looking further, Zhang Xiao Qiang actually walked out of the building.
Zhang Xiao Qiang stood at the entrance of the building with the 30 combat team members standing behind him and a land rover with a Type 53 HMG installed on it at the back. Yang Ke’er and Guo Fei held their respective weapons and stood by the side while Shangguan Qiao Yun held her Garand Rifle and stood inactively behind Zhang Xiao Qiang.
Zhang Xiao Qiang had gotten a good look of the building, the building had a 6m wall perimeter behind that had countless broken glasses stabbed into it. The only way to enter was from where Zhang Xiao Qiang stood. Zhang Xiao Qiang had no thoughts to fight with another Gen-Omega Human, so he brought his army and weapons to bully them.
“People inside, heed my words. Drop your weapons and come on out. Otherwise, we will start firing. People inside, heed my words….”
Out of nowhere, Three found a large paper cone and shouted through it. The other combat team members made their preparations and aimed their guns at the building. Zhang Xiao Qiang looked at the curtain that was swaying slightly once again and left Three to continue shouting.
One minute…..two minutes….three minutes.
Zhang Xiao Qiang raised his right hand and swung it down. “Da da da da….” The doors were instantly smashed into smithereens, following the penetration of the countless bullet into the walls, the smoke caused everyone to be unable to witness the situation at the doors. Zhang Xiao Qiang raised his head up and looked at the window. The curtains were trembling incessantly. Zhang Xiao Qiang raised his right hand again and the HMG stopped.
After the dust scattered, the mess appeared in front of everybody’s eyes. Pieces of wood and metal of differing sizes laid all around and the 7.62mm bullets had produced a hole the size of a head in the wall beside the door. Beside the hole were countless fist-sized pits, revealing the remaining half brick wall within, the rest all crumbled into pieces on the ground.
Despite the barrage, the floor upstairs remained quiet. Zhang Xiao Qiang knew that someone was watching him right behind the window. He drew his Desert Eagle and fired off at the window pane of the second window.
“Bang….” Following the quick flick of his wrist, the second-floor window shattered and dropped to the ground. Zhang Xiao Qiang prepared for a second shot.
“AHHH….” A scream came out from the upstairs. Zhang Xiao Qiang stopped his fire. The additional screams informed him that there was not only one woman upstairs but a group of them. Zhang Xiao Qiang did not find a need to care for a single lady but he could not ignore a group of them. In the apocalypse, women were considered a type of precious resource.
“Don’t fire, we are coming out. I don’t have a weapon, please don’t….” After the shout, many ladies walked out unsteadily and stood at the door.
Zhang Xiao Qiang looked at the young ladies, doing mental measurements and calculations with regards to the footsteps and frequency of the swaying of their bodies. The 21 women stood in a row below the muzzle of the HMG, but Zhang Xiao Qiang did not discover the Gen-Omega Human.
These survivors were completely different from Director Ma and his team, they were all young, or more accurately pretty. Their faces still had a luster to them, it seemed as though they never starved, but Zhang Xiao Qiang’s eyes saw more than that.
These women had their faces and hands injured before, it was only that the majority of the wounds have already healed. Ordinary people might not be able to notice the injuries, but Zhang Xiao Qiang’s powerful eyes were able to see the shallow scars left behind on their skin that were of a faintly different shade from the rest of the skin.
Additionally, Zhang Xiao Qiang noticed that when they walked, they were extremely light on their steps. They were extremely similar to the women back at the base. Even the female members under Zhang Xiao Qiang had heavier footsteps than them. From this, Zhang Xiao Qiang knew that the Gen-Omega Human was not amongst them.
The 21 young ladies stood in front of Zhang Xiao Qiang with their heads lowered and eyes staring straight at their feet. The members behind Zhang Xiao Qiang turned restless, they were all evaluating the fresh and young ladies in front of them, some even greeting the ladies or arguing with others on who had the first dip. There were even two men who had their eyes set on the same lady, causing some heated debate to occur.
The members’ argument and quarrel were naturally picked up by the ladies. Some of them trembled, some had teardrops dropping from their eyes to their feet that mixed into the dust, some raised their heads up and gave Zhang Xiao Qiang pleading looks, pleading for him to not send them to his subordinates.
And there were some who did not cry or plead. They raised their heads up and looked at the combat team members carefully, as though they had already resigned to their fate, their eyes a deep, emotionless pit.
