Chapter 3992  Dark Shadows

Davis stepped into the fifth level. The coldness was almost unbearable here for him as each breath he took felt like ice filling his lungs. The once clear rocky pathway of the cave was now covered in fine, dark dust, almost like it was burned ash. His vision was highly narrowed.

It couldn't be helped.

His raw physical prowess only reached Level Three Empyrean Stage. It was already the limit of what was allowed inside here. This is one of the reasons why he didn't Lea and the others with him.

Still, he wasn't even anxious.

He finally summoned chaotic energy and encased himself with it. The darkness engulfing his system abruptly stopped and dispersed. He could see clearly now up to ninety meters ahead without any problem. After all, his martial prowess has now reached over high-fifteen levels higher, making it so that his prowess barely stepped into the Mid Empyrean Stage, able to take on Level Four Empyreans.

He should at least now be able to traverse the beginning area of the fifth level with ease.

"Grand Chaos Silver Body~"

However, Davis spoke the name of a technique from the Grand Chaos Body Art Manual. Instantly, the chaotic energy that covered the entirety of his body seeped into his pores and revitalized the flesh, making his body extremely pale. It wasn't the paleness of the sick but the paleness of the chaotic glow.

He now pushed ahead, each step he took radiating the undulations of a Level Four Immortal Emperor, but it was as dense as the undulations of a Level Four Empyrean. At this point, due to the quality of his Chaos Laws alone, even a blank Level Four Empyrean wouldn't be a match for him in a physical battle.

He'd wreck their body in moments.

Davis felt incredibly empowered, as though nothing could stop him.

At the eighth step he took, a shadow abruptly emerged from the darkness.

He had seen it just as it formed. It appeared like a hooded humanoid silhouette, but underneath its robe, he could see it was nothing but a soul lifeform. Its appearance was that of a wraith. It dashed at him, extending its spectral-purple claws to slice him to pieces.

*Clang!~*

The moment they clashed, it generated a metallic sound piercing through the area.

Davis saw that this specter's power was enough to behead a Level Three Empyrean with ease. It was no wonder it was barred. Only Mid-Stage Empyreans can barely enter and live to see the day, and most of them might not even see this strange lifeform coming at them.

"Chaos encompasses all. Even if it's an attack stemming from pure soul force, it can defend more than any physical attributes."

Davis painfully learned that when his Spear of Damnation, although not necessarily countered, was less effective against the Celestial Transcendent because he had wrapped his body in chaotic energy. That was the most difficult encounter he ever had in his life.

With the power of chaotic energy, he kept the specter at bay as his arm remained connected to its claws. It was unable to pierce through his skin, but through physical touch, he was able to directly flood his soul sense into its spectral body and investigate it.

Instantly, the ravings he heard as a whisper abruptly loudened within his mind, trying to make him go mad.

However, Davis remained indifferent.

His soul was much more powerful. Like Vereina's Violent Punitive Soul Physique, his Everlasting Samsara Tribunal Soul Physique was also practically unaffected. He also possessed Enigmatic Heart Laws that made him practically invulnerable to dark psychosis of this level. To cloud his soul, the enemy's attack needed to be at least six more levels higher than his current max prowess.

"I see. So you're the physical form of the maddening ravings…"

Davis panned his gaze and saw more specters appear. The darkness energy here was so thick that it gave birth to laws. Instead of spirits, it gave birth to these specters from the special environment of this chasm.

'Most likely, they could only exist within this chasm…'

Davis guessed. Otherwise, they might have poured out of the fifth level, able to destroy every being outside, which would've invited a Void Calamity. The fact that it didn't mean people marked it as an enclosed danger zone and took it as a place to train and hunt for treasures.

At the corner of his eyes, Davis could see a purple fern that was much more different than the others.

Clearly, it was a Low-Level Empyrean Grade Treasure containing Darkness Laws. It didn't seem mature and was even lacking in terms of energy, but Davis wasn't bothered as he had the confidence to make it grow quickly.

'Perhaps I'll gift that to Yilla…'

*Clang!~*

Davis thought and parried the specter with his arm. The specter's claw was pushed off back, but before it could slam it back, Davis extended his fingers into a spear and stabbed it into the specter's head, causing it to explode and disperse.

He suddenly retreated when two more claws fell at the place he stood.

The terrifying sound of the razor-sharp spectral claws piercing through the dark ash on the ground was grating to hear. It sparked a special concoction of smoke that was actually toxic, making Davis narrow his brows. He held his breath and sealed his pores, which meant his Grand Chaos Silver Body could come to an end soon because the supply of chaotic energy from the external flesh was stopped.

Although he could supply chaotic energy internally, this technique required the juxtaposition of chaotic energy from the inside and outside, allowing one to form a nearly impenetrable defense where even the organs wouldn't take damage because of impact.

Right now, his entire body was acting as one, releasing impact in all the locations so as to considerably lower the damage.

It was an extreme application of Yin Laws with the chaos technique, so Davis took a lot of time to learn it. He felt like he must once again praise the World Master for her ingenuity. She casually noted all kinds of applications she could think of to incorporate into Chaos Laws in the last pages.

Davis gained his distance.

The two specters followed him as though they didn't have the slightest ability to think. They came into his range, and he eventually did the favor of breaking their faces with a punch and a kick, causing them to disperse.

However, he saw that they were strangely remaining like a remnant layer of dust.

'Could it be that they'll reawaken once enough time passes…?'
