Monarch of EvernightMonarch of Evernight
Now that the Immortal Emissary had been executed, the next important matter was to deal with the radiant sun’s trajectory.
The Radiant Emperor and Empress Li had already performed the necessary calculations. After the death of the diviners, the sun would lose its momentum a quarter of an hour earlier than planned, dropping into a new trajectory that would circle around the Evernight World.
The next day, at the Imperial Palace.
Qianye and Lady Ye stood face to face, neither of them speaking.
Ye gazed intently at Qianye, observing him in great detail. The latter remained silent as he didn’t know what to say.
It was Lady Ye who broke the silence. “I’ll tell you about myself. Our clan ancestor is a powerful general under the late Duke Xu. By the time it was my turn to watch over the Evernight World, he had already been promoted to the count rank. Most of our clan descendants accumulate merits by fighting on the battlefield, including myself. Even the Dao Court cannot punish titled nobility without good reason.”
Qianye nodded. “How are your injuries?”
“The curse has dissipated, and the rest are just minor wounds. I should be fine after three days.”
“How will you handle the matter of the Immortal Emissary? Should we prepare to face off against an immortal army?”
Lady Ye said with a smile, “Xu Ran is a sinner since he wanted to keep a great treasure for himself. He brought this upon himself. The Xu clan doesn’t have the moral high ground even if this matter goes to the Dao Court. Moreover, Xu Ran’s actions might not have been endorsed by the clan. It’s more likely his own decision. The Dao Court has always been fair, so this shouldn’t be a big problem. At most, we will have to redeem ourselves by earning more merits.”
Qianye felt relieved. “I thought there’d be a war.”
Having seen Xu Ran, Qianye wasn’t all that confident about a fight against the Immortal Heaven.
“What do you plan to do about the humans of this world?” Lady Ye asked.
Qianye already had a plan. “Whoever wishes to return to the Immortal Heaven, I plan to let them do so. Those who don’t want to may stay. It’s just that we need to accumulate merits to return. Not only do we not have any, we even killed the Immortal Emissary. That makes things a bit difficult.”
“Who says you don’t?”
“What do we have?” Qianye was a bit curious.
“Actually, the machines that run on black stone that allow ordinary people to perform impossible feats, now that path is a merit and a significant one at that.”
“That counts?”
“Of course! Not many in the Immortal Heaven can enter the Dao Court. The top powerhouses are either busy fighting on different fronts or focused on how to prolong their lives, going into centuries-long isolation periods. No one has the time to pay attention to ordinary people.
“The ordinary people of Immortal Heaven all strive for ascension, so they would spend all their resources on cultivation. Those without resources would have to struggle bitterly, hoping to save enough for the next generation. Without sufficient focus on industrial production, the overall production is extremely low. There hasn’t been any improvement in tens of thousands of years.
“The Immortal Heaven might be boundlessly vast, but it’s sparsely populated compared to the Evernight World. Ordinary people live a life of hardship with barely sufficient food to get by, let alone enjoy life like in the Evernight World.”
Qianye was surprised. “Do the immortals not have amazing powers and boundless might? A random powerhouse could easily modify the environment and help the people out. The supremes and great dark monarchs did the same for their people.”
The reason the Twilight Continent was so suitable for the vampires was because of Lilith. Wherever the Queen of the Night stayed for a period of time, she would turn the land into a haven for vampires. The great dark monarchs and princes have done the same thing.
“They mean it when they say the myriad people are just ants. They wouldn’t spare a glance for the little people. You will know after you set out on the heavenly monarch path that you are different from ordinary people. In Evernight words, you’re on a completely different level.”
“I see.”
“That’s why the basic-resources utilization here is far superior to the Immortal Heaven. If we can implement the technology over there, the number of ordinary people we can support will increase a hundred-fold. Moreover, the people will enjoy fulfilling lives, which in turn will improve the Dao Court’s fortune.”
Finally, Lady Ye said, “Evernight’s direction is close to the grand path. Even ten Rivers of Blood cannot compare to it. That laughable Xu Ran only saw the river but completely missed the true treasure.”
Qianye heaved a sigh of relief. “It’ll be best if we can wipe away our sins. I won’t need to worry about those returning to the Immortal Heaven then.”
At this point, Ye sighed. “You only need to look at Xu Ran to guess how those major characters think. They wouldn’t even glance at ordinary people under normal circumstances, much less care about their survival. I might’ve missed this path if my elders hadn’t reminded me repeatedly to pay attention to Evernight or if I hadn’t lived here for fifty years. My last 100-year shift here in Evernight went by in just two isolation periods.”
Since the Immortal Heaven was sparsely populated, Qianye didn’t need to worry about the returning humans. They might even fare better in a daybreak dominant world.
“How many people can return to the Immortal Heaven?”
After some calculation, Ye said, “The transport vessel on the radiant sun, called the moving palace, can hold about twenty thousand people. We’ll need a cosmic palace if we want to move more people. Those supersized transport vessels can hold five hundred thousand.”
Even Qianye was startled by this number.
“Wait, let me call Anwen and Zining over. They’ve probably finished calculating the new trajectory by now.”
Moments later, Anwen and Song Zining sat down in the room. They were accompanied by Nighteye and Predica.
Nighteye simply leaned against Qianye without saying anything.
Predica summoned a projection of the Evernight World, one that was much more detailed than the Empire’s version. After all, the Evernight races had lived here for countless years, and the powerhouses had been exploring the void. Although they didn’t know the reasoning behind everything, they did make sure to explore every inch of their home.
Anwen outlined a trajectory on the map, saying, “This is the radiant sun’s current trajectory. The problem is that the radiant sun will release daybreak origin power from time to time. We need to move it to a more distant orbit and also find a way to expand the inner-world tunnel, drawing in more darkness origin power. That is the only way we can balance out the two attributes. Otherwise, the sacred races will all die out at one point. “Looking at the long term, however, a balanced world is more in line with the entire universe. It will also allow us to expand and develop better. The world is currently short on daybreak origin power, so the radiant sun can keep going for three weeks. We can change its trajectory after it has released sufficient daybreak origin power.”
Qianye nodded. “How many do you think will want to return to the Immortal Heaven?”
Song Zining said, “The number far exceeds our expectations. No one knows what the situation is over there, but it seems like paradise from our current point of view. Also, that place is a world with dominant daybreak origin power. Everyone will be able to cultivate faster after returning, and their lifespans will also increase. It’s also our ancestors’ wish to return to our roots.”
Lady Ye said, “Not a problem. I’ll return and send two cosmos palaces over. We can bring back one million people.”
Song Zining shook his head. “That’s far from enough.”
Anwen spoke at this point, “I have an idea.”
